Fatal generalized vaccinia with failure of antibody production and absence of serum gamma globulin.

چکیده
The reaction to vaccination against smallpox is generally a trivial, short-lived affair. Complications are uncommon and, of these, generalized vaccinia is one of the least common. In true generahzed vaccima the lesions pass through the stages of papule, vesicle and pustule with little cropping, and the first lesions seldom occur earlier than the ninth day after vaccination. In most cases the disease is self-limiting, the lesions heal normally, and neutralizing antibodies develop during the course of the disease. A small number of cases have been reported, however, in which lesions continued to develop over

متن کاملA case of vaccinia necrosum (or progressive vaccinia), with severe hypogammaglobulinaemia, treated with n-methyl isatin beta-thiosemicarbazone (33T57).
A fatal case of vaccinia necrosum treated with antivaccinial gamma globulin and N-methyl isatin beta-thiosemicarbazone (33T57) is described. Histological abnormalities found at necropsy included intranuclear as well as cytoplasmic inclusion bodies, absence of lymphoid germinal centres, grey hepatization, and bronchiolar epithelial hyperplasia. Virus titres were highest in the original skin lesi...

متن کاملVaccinia gangrenosa and agammaglobulinaemia.
Normally, primary vaccination against smallpox produces a vesicle on an inflamed base in four days, enlarging for a further five days with umbilication, and healing under a scab in about three weeks. Pyogenic infection of the primary lesion is the most common complication of vaccinia. Secondary vaccinal lesions may occur as the result of autoinoculation of adjacent or distant areas of skin. The...
